Boston was great as always, but that little fact certainly does not surprise me anymore. Once you have friends in a great city, the city blossoms and opens up all of a sudden. The topography is still the same, if you catch my drift, but the spirit and soul has changed.
Concerts were a bit of a focus this weekend, with a concert on Friday night and on Saturday night. As I had mentioned, Friday night's show was a benefit for Club Passim featuring 4 music greats:
Halali
Mark Erelli and the Spurs
Peter Mulvey and David Goodrich
Richard Thompson
The concert was held at Harvard University's Sander's Theatre, a new favorite Cambridge venue. I was just looking at their calendar of events, and in April they have Leo Kottke and Solas. Nice.
As usual, I picked up a few new cd's... I have never been known to have any sort of resistance for the 'merch' table. I picked up Halali's new album, and Mark Erelli's new cd too. I have everything that Peter and Goody have out. :)
After the concert Dave and I went with our friends Tony and Tim to get ice cream at Herrells. Don't be shocked, but I didn't get hot fudge. I know, I know... but they had rum raisin and I thought the fudge would overwhelm the rummy raisins. No, I don't think 'rummy' is a word, but what do you expect from a creative writing foodie.
Oh, and dinner before the show was at Mr. Bartley's. Tim got the Elvis burger and the Elvis frappe... anyone sensing a theme? Dave went with the Howard Scream burger (ha ha, that one still cracks me up) and a lime rickey. I myself got a Laura Bush (cheddar and bacon... please don't hold the republican name against me!) with sweet potato fries and a lime rickey. Yeah, I could have a Mr. Bartley's burger right now...... mmmmmm, Mr. Bartley's. I would settle for a lime rickey though.
Saturday was a nice relaxing day, capped off by a great concert held at Passim proper. Kris Delmhorst. I'm listening to her album 5 Stories right now, and sad that I didn't pick up Hurricane as well. Passim as it is will definately be a home away from home once we move to Boston, and Kris has now taken a place on the regular playlist. She recently toured England and Ireland with Peter Mulvey, David Goodrich and Jeffrey Foucault under the band name Redbird... pick up their album too while you're at it. Trust me on these music picks, would I steer you wrong? Of course not!
Ah well, weekend went by too fast. But today has been productive, got a chance to sort through the stuff I brought home that had been in my old office. Need to go work out, then start thinking about dinner.
